CHERRY POPPIN’ PLAY FESTIVAL 2009

February 20 – March 8

Friday Nights

The Adventure Play by Anthony Cretara & Jasper Oliver,
directed by Jeremy Aluma.

In this play, anything can happen and everything is possible. A plague-ridden peasant from the fourteenth century joins his pals, a headstrong dwarven warrior and a dimension-hopping visitor from the present, on a journey through the rocky terrain of the mind. As they stumble through folklore and hoopla, they find themselves faced at last with a conundrum, wrapped in a riddle, swaddled in the rotting flesh of a pregnant camel carcass.

Under the Great Boobie Hatch
by Ryan McClary, directed by Mike Dias.

Tune in to Jacob Bastion as he broadcasts from an undisclosed location in New Mexico. Will he discover the mystery behind this veil of lies we call life? Or will the nutjobs destroy it all?

Cherry Poppin' Play Festival Band Line-up. Bands start at 7:30pm.

Feb 27-  SlowMo Erotic

Saturday Nights

Squat
by Cort Brinkerhoff, directed by Danielle Dauphinee.

This powerful exploration of the effects of war, both on soldiers and those close to them, explodes with deadly force. Adam, a Marine who has spent most of his adult life in Iraq, comes home to find that his depressed and lonely wife Chase has spent all their savings and formed a dangerous friendship with Tawny, a drug-addicted ‘escort.’ Caught in a web of betrayal and lies, Adam and Chase must face a marriage on the brink of disaster.

Public Service
by David Lawson, directed by Chris Batstone and Matt Scovill.

Have you ever looked at the Mona Lisa and asked, "So…?" In this provocative play, two public servants challenge the audience to question the line between art and what the spectator sees as art. And more importantly, is it possible to sit idly by when that line itself moves?

Cherry Poppin Play Festival Band Line-up. Bands start at 7:30pm.

Sunday Nights

The Mother of God Visits Hell
by Daniel Guyton, directed by Sylvia Blush.

Based on a line from The Brothers Karamazov, this contemporary poetic comedy follows the Virgin Mary as she travels to Hell in a bold attempt to save the souls of the damned.  Not surprisingly, Satan has a different plan.

The Stratovolcanoe
by Aaron Van Geem, directed by Robert Edward.

Satan makes an appearance in this play as well, this time leading four musicians through a blasted Mexican desert on a quest to find their lost heart.  Does the road lead to salvation or doom?  The young grow old, the dead speak, and worlds live and die in this musical odyssey to the summit of the world's tallest volcano.

Cherry Poppin Play Festival Band Line-up. Bands start at 7:30pm.
